Junior Lifeguards
The Kauai Junior Lifeguards program was initiated in 1977 with the goal of building life-long awareness of the ocean and its conditions, being knowledgeable and capable in the water, and responding to situations that require rescue or preventative action.

The Price
This free program is open to all Kaua’i Keiki ages 8-11 and Juniors 12-17.
The Program
The program demonstrates Ocean Safety awareness and valuable lifesaving skills taught by Kaua’i’s finest Ocean Safety Instructors.
The Mission
Junior Guards is a development program for future lifeguards who keep millions of visitors and kamaaina safe.

Provide the youth with the lifesaving skills they need to stay safe in the ocean.
Invaluable skills
Instructors work to train young men and women to perform a valuable lifesaving service for their community. They learn to identify dangerous ocean conditions and hazards, prevention and rescue skills, first aid, and CPR. The program also stresses a healthy drug-free lifestyle and respect for their community and elders.
Development
When they first come into the Jr. Lifeguard program they are kids, ready to learn and grow. When they leave we can no longer call them kids. Through this program, they are transformed to become young men and women ready to take on an important responsibility for ocean safety and the community.
The Future
Building our Community
At least 8 of our Junior Guards have gone on to become Kauai County Lifeguards. The benefit to the island of Kauai is immeasurable and we can never thank our supporters enough for believing that our Jr. Lifeguards can and will make a difference.
