The KLA Ocean Minded Community campaign for 2017 has so many active facets that reinforce safety training and awareness for our residents and vistiors 365 days a year.  The concert effort using radio, television, videos, brochures, keiki and junior lifeguard programs, visitor industry briefings on ocean safety, roving patrols, rescue tubes and more is well worth it.

And the Kauai Lifeguard Association always likes to give back.  In the past its Celebrations known as Waves, were held in the evening as casual festive evenings of food fun and laughter while calling attention to our lifeguards.  This year the KLA event of appreciation is being held where it belongs.  On the beach.. at the Kauai Marriott Luau Grounds.  Our lifeguards will actually perform rescues using jet skis and rescue tubes, illustrating the need for speed and special care when saving lives.

At the same time there will be a celebration barbecue, live music with John Cruz and Friends, Brother Noland, and Paul Togioka.  It’s a Beach Party!  With no host cocktails thanks to Koloa Rum, and Pacifico and Corona Beer, and a splash of wine and refreshments from 3pm-6pm.

There will be over $6000 in prizes awarded.. including simple prize drawings during the afternoon with a grand prize trip for two to anywhere Alaska Airlines flies.  There will also some exciting activity on stage.  Those in attendance are encouraged to stop by the prize table and show us some classic vintage aloha wear, or an oldie but goldie tee shirt of local significance.  If it is selected to be a finalist on stage then the winner of the Vintage Aloha Wear competition receives a weekend at the St.  Regis Princeville Resort .. first place in the oldie but goldie tee shirt wins a weekend with amenities at the Courtyard Marriott in waipouli.

No purchase or donations are necessary to enter any of the contests on stage. And the audience via applause will select the winner.  The KLA Beach Bash salutes our lifeguards and it also salutes the businesses and people that support KLA. The party is limited in size and there are just a few tables remaining.  Individual tickets and any remaining tables can be purchased on line at Kauailifeguards.org as well as by calling andy Melamed 808 482 0218.. andymelamed946@gmail.com
