A party with a purpose was the secret to the Kauai Lifeguard Association’s First Wave Celebration in 2011. In 2012, the same purpose carries on as the KLA’s efforts continue to Help Save Lives. .
The KLA Second Wave Celebration is on Discover’s Day weekend October 7th at Kilohana. This Hawaii Super Sstar Sunday lineup features the most popular musicians from around the state. Dr. Monty Downs, President of KLA remarked, “Based on last year’s standing room only attendance, as well as the festive atmosphere, we had to set the bar higher than last year’s program and we feel that event organizer Andy Melamed did just that”.
Doors open at 3:00pm with all in attendance given a chance to mix and mingle while checking out the silent auction items, the prize donor displays, live art with Steve Valiere, as well as surf movies shown on the walls.
John Cruz and special friends perform from 3:45pm. After his music, a live on-stage auction and random prize drawing takes place. Then, at 4:45pm. Kalapana’s entire band will rock the house with their great melodies and superb riffs until 5:45pm.
Henry Kapono is bringing a five piece band to help the cause for well over an hour, followed by another live auction package up for grabs. Andy Bumatai, the comic hit of the show last year, returns for some side-splitting observations. Then, after the Mayors live auction segment on stage, Willie K. and full jam band continues until 9:30pm.
The lineup is spectacular and so are the prize drawings and displays and silent auction items up for grabs throughout the festivities. KLA’s Party with Purpose will help save lives with a preventative campaign that has thus far reduced the number drawings on Kauai from 15 people a few years back to just one thus far in 2012.
Media campaigns, new updated safety videos, beach and ocean signage, maintenance and replacement of rescue tubes, swim clubs, and ocean activities to focus on safety — All benefit, from this years 2nd wave. And, if it only helps prevent one drowning we feel that the Hawai Superstar Sunday “party with a purpose” will succeed. Because one lost life along our shores is one too many.
