Once again, the KLA is excited to have John Cruz perform at our Second Wave Celebration, after his great performance last year at our First Wave event!
The Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts has twice awarded John Cruz the Na Hoku Hanohano Award (Hawaii's Grammy's) for Contemporary Album of the Year. He was named Best Singer Songwriter by Hawaii Magazine in 2008. He earned a 2006 Grammy Award for the original song, "Jo Bo's Night" -- the first Grammy ever awarded for Hawaiian music. And yes, he will perform at the KLA Second Wave Celebration!
John is one of Hawaii's most talented musician and singer-songwriters with worldwide popularity. According to his website, his recent recent touring has included stops at Bluesfest in Australia, the massive Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Tennessee, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Summerstage in New York's Central Park, and Carnegie Hall.
During Barack Obama's inauguration he headlined four galas and played 14 shows at the prestigious SXSW (South by Southwest) music festival in Austin, Texas in March 2009, as one of the first Hawaiians ever invited to showcase there.
